You will come out of the class knowing the fundamentals of backstitch embroidery and a cute 'lil design on your piece of clothing!
Flash Tattoo Beaded Embroidery Workshop
When: Tuesday, October 13th, 6:30-8:30pm
Where: Magnolia & May (718 Mt Moriah Rd, Memphis, TN 38117)
Cost: $45 (includes INSTRUCTIONAL, SUPPLIES, & A TAKE HOME EMBROIDERY KIT!)
For this class, you will bring your OWN piece of clothing on which you will embroider a little beaded design. You may also use my fabric to make something that you can adhere to clothing, bags, or even just hang up as artwork if you do not want to bring a piece of clothing!
The process:
You will first learn the basics of beaded embroidery using a practice piece of fabric.
After that, it's go time! You will set up your piece of clothing to embroider using a 4" embroidery hoop, and will pick your design and colors/beads! You can alternatively use the provided fabric and embroidery hoop to make a piece of art if you do not wish to embroider on clothing. Choosing your design: You may choose a design from the flash sheets your instructor, Anna, has hand drawn just for this class, or you can create your own! These act as a sort of "stencil" on which you will embroider; Flash sheet selection is unique for every class! Your piece will be ready to take home at the end of the class, as well as a goody bag from Anna so you have the tools to start embroidery on your own if you so desire! ✨
What to bring:
-Your own clothing item to "tattoo"
For help deciding which piece of clothing to bring...
-Sweaters that are not overly "fluffy," sweatshirts, jeans, chore coats, denim, tote bags, tea towels, cotton tees, CLOTH bags, and thick tees are our favorite items to embroider!
-Choose something with minimal stretch; a cotton t-shirt is perfect, a stretchy ribbed body con t-shirt may not be.
-NO nylon. Common nylon items are 80s/90s windbreaker jackets and high-performance (school) backpacks. Nylon blends where nylon is not the primary component of the fabric may work; feel free to ask me!
-Anything thicker than a pair of jeans will give you some trouble, as the needle will be harder to get through the material.
- You can also bring a bag or tea towel in place of a piece of clothing!
-If you do not wish to bring a piece of clothing or are feelin' indecisive, please note you CAN use the tester fabric as a sort of "patch" that can be later sewed onto a piece of clothing, a bag, etc.
-I do not recommend stretchy thin tees (think a thin target heathered tee or thin stretchy ribbed tee)
-Many past attendees have brought something thrifted - this is a great option!
-If it wasn't obvious...Please bring clean clothes!
Can't wait to see you there! - Anna ✨
